We’re officially open! We launched on Sunday 1st of March with a buzzing vernissage.
Frome’s mayor Peter Macfadyen kicked off proceedings by cutting the ceremonial ribbons.
Simon then presented Peter with a custom-made mayoral chain. Peter invites organisations and businesses to make him an alternative mayoral chain that reveals something of the character of the giver, and also Frome itself. He has now collected quite a few. Our framemaker Simon took up the challenge and made Peter a Mount-themed mayoral chain. He used picture framing mouldings cut into triangles, hand-carved the pendant and gold-painted the details. The silk-like ribbons represent Mount’s colours and the fact that we are based in an old silk mill. We presented the chain to Peter at our launch and he kept it on for the duration of the Independent market.
The workshop looked fantastic, decorated with stunning flower in-season arrangements by Common Farm Flowers. We were well-fed with delicious snacks by At The Chapel. Lots of lovely freebies were up for grabs, we made three button badges, a useful leaflet about how to care for your framed art and Jennifer designed a postcard.
We met lots of really inspiring people, from Frome and from further afield. Simon and I were both trained at art school in Bournemouth, we’re keen art collectors and curators. We’ve moved to Frome to be part of the thriving arts scene here, and going on all the amazing people we met on Sunday we’ve certainly come to our kind of place! We look forward to getting stuck into Frome life, going to exhibitions and events and meeting more Fromeites.
