Before we moved to Frome we were based in Dorset (The Old Print Room). Read about our past exhibitions in this short blog post series “past exhibitions”, and get a flavour of our style and the sort of shows we’re looking to curate for our pop-up gallery in Frome.
Netted in a Silver Mist
A selection of works from Frome-based graphite artist Paul Newman. Paul is a remarkably talented, prize winning graphite artist who draws meticulously detailed works of landscapes, trees, rocks and water. The title of the exhibition ‘Netted in a Silver Mist’ is borrowed from Elizabeth Browning’s epic poem ‘Aurora Leigh’. The Private view was Saturday the 11th of October at The Old Print Room.
The exhibition of Paul’s drawings was exhibited with written works by Jill Harris. Jill is a published author and a Master of creative writing. She wrote a couple of paragraphs about Paul’s work –
‘Paul Newman’s fragile, beautiful work is like a gateway to my love of the landscape and humanity’s place within it. Paul’s images have a quality which make me reflect on the complexity of being human and part of nature, yet somehow detached from it.
When I look at the work of Paul Newman, I get a sense of calm and inspiration. As though his drawings are a place for me to breathe, to think, to recollect, reconnect and refine.
Each poem was written in response to a drawing. The pictures led me to creative reflections on the earth, war, birth, love, loss – on everything that separates us from nature, and everything that brings us closer.
I hope you too, take the chance to practice some deeper contemplation as you examine Paul’s images.’
Paul has lots of exciting exhibitions and projects forthcoming, keep up to date https://www.facebook.com/paulsgraphicart and follow him on twitter: https://twitter.com/newmanmpaul
This was the final exhibition at The Old Print Room.
We look forward to working with Paul in future Mount pop-up exhibitions.
