Advent Artists: Jenny Raggett

Every day during Advent 2015 we’ll feature a different South West artist. We’ve framed, printed or exhibited the artists featured in Advent Artists.

22nd December: Jenny Raggett

Jenny Raggett is an artist who works mostly with glass. Based in the Silk Mill, Jenny creates stained glass mosaics. She has two methods, the first is similar to the traditional technique developed in the middle ages for church glass. The second is a newer technique using off cuts of glass. Jenny paints fragments of coloured glass and glues them to a glass panel. Mount framemaker, Simon, makes Jenny a narrow rebate frame with a glass panel that Jenny then uses to create these mosaics.

Jenny also paints, often deploying an aesthetic similar to her glass work. Her background in technical writing for web-developers influences her work, and she has made a series of “connected” creatures and objects, showing how everything is now connected to the Internet. This work is both playful, and menacing. Currently Jenny is working on a book about how the Internet was collaboratively invented. Like her other work, this is set to be both informative, engaging but also a little bit mad and fun.
