Every day during Advent 2015 we’ll feature a different South West artist. We’ve framed, printed or exhibited the artists featured in Advent Artists.
4th December: Alexandra Brown
Alexandra is a painter based at the Silk Mill Studios. She specialises in portraits, but her repertoire is varied. Alexandra trained at Wimbledon College of Art, and the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries, including the Silk Mill gallery and Bruton Art Factory. Two of her paintings are currently showing at Bruton Art Factory. In 2016 she will part of a group show curated by Bruton Art Factory.
Simon and Alexandra loved the oriental profile of this moulding (above) and how it played so well against the Goddess depicted and the asian feel of the painting. The moulding is usually presented the other away around with the sweep coming towards the painting rather than away from it. Simon and Ally felt that reversing this so that it swept away from the painting would reference the shape of traditional oriental roofs. Ally then painted the moulding to further compliment the palette of the painting. We love to collaborate with artists in finding the best solution to framing works.
