This is part 4 of a short series of blog posts about our experience of the Frome Open Studios trail. Read part 1 , part 2 and part 3 by clicking on the links. Our fourth visit was to Alexandra Howell’s studio.
We’d heard a lot about Alexandra’s work from our friends and clients, but had never seen it for ourselves. We’re so glad we made the trip out to visit her. Of all the studios we visited, Alexandra’s was presented in the most professional way. Her beautiful studio had been stripped out and turned into a neutral and clean gallery space. The work in her house was displayed elegantly and simply.
Alexandra has been a designer for Coutaulds Design studio in London, and her aesthetic eye is certainly well-trained. Her paintings are beautiful, moving and have a real presence. No wonder she sells so many! Her work depicts natural scenes, often seascapes and woodlands – captured with an ethereal raw beauty.
Alexandra’s studio is at the bottom of her garden (which had a Black Swan Arts Secret Swan hiding in it!). The space is airy, light and an excellent venue for exhibiting her moody sea and landscapes. Be sure to look out for future exhibitions!
