Every day during Advent 2015 we’ll feature a different South West artist. We’ve framed, printed or exhibited the artists featured in Advent Artists.
13th December: Clare Mahoney
Clare is a ceramic artist best known for her ceramic pebbles that depict natural forms. She uses the process of press mould porcelain, making casts from found objects and pebbles. The finished product are tactile and ergonomic, fitting pleasantly in the palm of your hand.
Clare studied at Glasgow School of Art, then went on to complete an MA at Howard Gardens in Cardiff. After this, Clare studied at the Baltimore Institute in Maryland, and worked with potters in Sanoma, California. She now lives and works in Frome, and exhibits her work in galleries across the UK. We first came across her ceramics at Walford Mill‘s Cabinets of Curiosity exhibition. Clare’s work is among the first three-dimensional pieces we bought for our own collection.
Clare asked us to frame this beautiful set of pebbles. We designed this simple box frame that shows off the pebbles cleanly and stylishly.
